Welcome to Barbados Ball Canada Aid (BBCA)
Hello, I am Steve Kirton, president of Barbados Ball Canada Aid (BBCA) and on behalf of Barbados Ball Canada Aid, I welcome you to our website.
BBCA is a not-for-profit organization formed in 2003 that is dedicated to supporting the Barbadian community in Canada and Barbados. We are a membership organization consisting of Barbadian organizations in Canada, Barbadian nationals living in Canada and friends of Barbados. BBCA provides scholarships to Barbadian youth attending college and university in Canada, donates vital medical equipment to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados and supports healthcare programs and services in Canada and Barbados. We also assist Barbadians in need and recognize outstanding Barbadians in Canada for their accomplishments.
Our signature fundraising event, the Barbados Charity Ball, has been held in Toronto since 2004. Patrons of this gala Black Tie affair are treated to an evening of genuine Bajan hospitality and enjoy a four-course dinner complete with Bajan culinary experience and entertainment by Barbadian artistes. Over 500 people support this significant fundraising event each year and the Ball has now become one of the premiere social events in Toronto.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, donors and volunteers, and all who have served and continue to serve on the Board of
Directors of Barbados Ball Canada Aid. Your contributions are of immense value to the Barbadian community in Canada and Barbados and I extend my most sincere thanks. I look forward to working with you.
As a visitor to this website and our Facebook page you will be informed of our activities and if you are not already supporting our charitable
efforts I encourage to you to make a contribution by assisting us in whatever way you can.
Sincerely
Steve Kirton

SNOWBALL - Beating the Cold with the Warmth of Laughter
Snowball, as this mid-winter event is known, was a casual evening geared to get the entire family out to share in the warmth of friendship, good food, drink and fun activities. Held for the first time on January 21st, Snowball compliments our signature event, the Barbados Charity Ball, held annually in June.
It was a resounding success, with over 200 persons attending the event at the Thornhill Community Centre, including some 30 kids and several teenagers. The kids had a whale of a time as they participated in various games and activities including scavenger hunt, colouring contests, freeze dance and Barbados history and fact trivia. Along with playing various board games the kids also got to learn some of the elements of steel pan playing, compliments of 17 year old Rachelle Dinchong who was great at entertaining everyone with her mastery of the pan.
The adults were not left out by any means and participated in playing card games dominoes, draughts and scrabble. The food was tasty and “moreish, moreish” as is often said in Barbados when a second helping is desired, and the mauby, sorrel, ginger beer and rum punch were most popular amongst the various selections of beverages available.
The highlight of the evening though was the MC, "Pecky” Clarke, who had everyone in stitches with her inimitable style, jokes and witty “bajanisms”.
Snowball could not have happened without the hard work and generosity of many people. The Snowball Committee of Colleen Martin, Joan Hinds and “Pecky” Clarke worked tirelessly on its planning and execution. Many others donated cash, gifts and food items, and contributed their time to this event. We are grateful to all those who contributed, and extend our sincere thanks to: Orlena Broomes, Jessica Carrington, Mark Carrington,
Nicole Carrington, Charles Cooke, Eurieta Cummings, Rachelle Dinchong, Angela Giles, Leslie Gittens, Valentine Goddard, Hugh and Carolyn Graham, Susan Grogan, Margaret Haynes, Doris Headley, Deighton Hutchinson, James Inniss, Leslie Jones, Wendy Joseph, Lisa Jones, Grace Kennedy (Ontario) Inc, Annis Kirton, Rochelle Kirton, Vincent and Lorain Lai of Nicey’s, Don MacKinlay, Dr. Leroy McClean, Dolores McIntosh, Deborah Millington, Grant Morris, Peggy Murray, Mike Nurse, Pat Sammy, Joan Rowe, June Searles, Barbara Trieloff-Deane, Karen Tull, Cardenia Wynter-Webster, Gloria Yarde.
Snowball was a real ‘family affair’ and it was heartwarming to see kids and adults alike enjoying themselves as much as they did. Thank you all for coming. I look forward to seeing you all at Snowball next year!
